W D (War Department) Searchlight - During World War II, the British War Department used powerful electric searchlights to spot enemy aircraft at night. These large, mobile lights used carbon arc technology and had a special mirror to shine a strong beam high into the sky. They helped guide anti-aircraft guns to target enemy planes in the dark.

Description: Olive green main body, chassis and cab roof; black seat; olive green daisy wheels; gold plated parts; 'W D' and '1986' in white lettering on side and rear of loadbed; 'CYCLOPS' in white on cab side panels; large cast white-metal searchlight with operators wooden seat mounted on load bed.
